From Konni's
Campaign Facebook Page:
Kudos to Governor Perry for vetoing HB 950 on Friday.
And right on cue came the same old "war on women" rhetoric from Wendy
Davis. After the veto, she wrote on FB: "In yet another attack on Texas
women, Gov. Perry has officially vetoed the
Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act." Please don't be fooled by her rhetoric!
That bill was not about preventing wage discrimination. That's already
illegal. HB 950 simply extended the statute of limitations on lawsuits.
Frivolous lawsuits that would result from that bill becoming law would
actually hinder employment for women. Perry's veto was not an attack on
women, but if the bill had become law it would have been a gift to trial
lawyers! In this case, Governor Perry used his veto pen wisely.
We need lawmakers who are ready to fight for policy which will actually
provide more opportunities to anyone who is seeking employment.
Eliminating the business margin tax would be a great start. Wendy Davis
is playing politics as usual instead of fighting for policy that works!
