(Stephenville, TX) Last Thursday, Brent Graves mailed Representative J.D. Sheffield, one of the two most liberal Republican Representatives in Texas*, a letter asking that he consider filing for re-election under the Democrat party.

In the letter Graves stated, “It would seem logical and more appropriate that you file for re-election under the Democratic Party. This simple action would allow you, should you be re-elected, to caucus with the party that seems to be more aligned with your views, allow you to gain more support from constituents who currently refuse to support Republicans, and it would allow you to freely express your political philosophy throughout the entire campaign.”

“If you were to choose to file as a Democrat I believe we could offer all voters in HD59 a clearer choice of candidates based on their personal political preferences versus the stark contrast that we will otherwise present only to Republican primary voters. At present your views on the 2nd Amendment, life, immigration, healthcare, taxes, and overall liberty do not align with the Republican Party platforms. These platforms were established by the most recent RPT or RNC conventions, neither of which you attended,” Graves later wrote.
