The other night, at a Lt. Gov. candidate forum in Houston, Dan Patrick attacked David Dewhurst over his committee appointments:
Patrick claimed that Democrats have been allowed to block legislation on sanctuary cities and school choice, largely because Dewhurst has given them too much power.Cahnman's Musings agrees that Dewhurst's committee appointments suck. The problem, however, is NOT the Democrats. It's the Republicans.
"I will not appoint half of the Democrats as chairman of committees," he said.
Dewhurst always appoints go-along, get-along, big government Republicans to powerful committees.
Senate Finance Chair Tommy Williams is the most obvious example.
During 83rd general session, absent leadership from the Lt. Governor, Tommy Williams ran the Texas Senate by default; the results were predictably disastrous.
Cahnman's Musings applauds Dan Patrick for questioning Dewhurst's committee appointments; Patrick's criticisms, however, would be stronger if he went after powerful Republicans like Tommy Williams instead of irrelevant Democrats.
