"Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord,
But a just weight is His delight."
Proverbs 11:1
TPPF Policy Orientation: Does the State of Texas have the authority to smack down local governments that overstep their boundaries in ways that overwhelm personal liberty?!?
Sen. Bob Hall (R - Rockwall/Dallas Counties):
- Foundation of our country is the states.
- States formed BOTH Federal and local govts.
- Let's remove regulations on taxis instead of adding them to Uber.
- Fracking bans take property rights away without compensation.
- Re: Property taxes -- At no level do we have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem.
- "If we have a law on the books it needs to be enforced."
- "One more law is not the answer to solving a law when it isn't being enforced."
Luke Metzger (Environment Texas):
- Something, something "plastic pollution."
- Your property rights end when they impact me.
- 12 cities have passed bag bans.
- Some overwrought anti-fracking "health impacts" diatribe.
- Local governments "filling the void."
- "Last line of defense."
Rep. Matt Rinaldi (R - Dallas):
- Hypocritical when local control advocates abandon it when it suits their agenda.
- eg. Texting while driving.
- "We have never believed the liberty does not trump local control."
- City governments are "very influenced by amped up groups of people."
- State should intervene when:
- You create an "unworkable patchwork" of local regulations.
- Does it implicate a liberty interest?!?
- eg. Bag bans inhibit right of contract.
- "I was co-author of a bill that would ban taxpayer-funded lobbying."
