Veto SB 15: An Open Letter to Governor Rick Perry

Dear Mr. Governor,

I am writing to request you veto the University bureaucrats protection act (aka. SB. 15), which passed the Texas Legislature on Wednesday.

University regents are currently hired by an elected Governor.  SB 15 would place this authority in the hands of University bureaucrats who are not accountable to the public.  While the current system is not perfect, keeping these decisions in the hand of a Governor who has to face voters every four years is the least bad alternative.

SB 15 would decrease accountability for a University of Texas system that is already failing to educate students.  The status quo is preferable to this outcome.  For that reason, Cahnman's Musings respectfully requests you veto SB 15.

Sincerely,
Adam Cahn

  1. I'm having a problem with the dates on this post. Today is May 16, 2013, but the letter seems to be posted May 26, 2013. Will he send it on 10 days? Just curious about the inconsistency.
