Jimmie Don Aycock: Good Riddance!!!
"A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous."
Earlier this morning, in a personal privilege speech shortly before they broke for sine die, Jimmie Don Aycock announced his retirement from the Texas Legislature.
Long a voice for the government school lobby, as Joe Straus' hand-picked public education committee chairman, Aycock squashed school choice and any other meaningful education reforms the past several sessions.
Aycock perpetuated the rural economy where the school district is often the largest employer in the area; this failed model has led to population decline in Texas' rural areas while the rest of the state has boomed.
In addition, Aycock allowed his lobbyist daughter to bring business before the committee over which he presided.
Jimmie Don Aycock will not be missed.
