Abbott gives Cop Lobbyists FITS over Pensions!!!

"Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord,
But a just weight is His delight."
Proverbs 11:1

Governor Abbott, quite properly stirring the pot:
The Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas, the state’s largest peace officer labor organization, wants Gov. Greg Abbott to rescind the appointment of an advocate who they say wants to abolish pensions for police.
Abbott appointed Josh McGee, a vice president at the Houston-based Laura and John Arnold Foundation, to the State Pension Review Board this week. The review board, created by the state legislature, is charged with overseeing state and local government retirement systems. McGee has penned articles warning of financial ruin cities could face because of mismanaged pensions. The foundation, on its website, says its mission is to address “our nation’s most pressing and persistent challenges.”
CLEAT, in its statement, said that McGee has lobbied for the dismantling of law enforcement pensions.
Of course, McGee never lobbied for any such thing; he has merely advocated for clear lines of authority in public pensions.

Bottom Line: While this website has nothing but respect for police officers on the beat, cop lobbyists at the Capitol are just like the rest of their TAXPAYER-FUNDED brethren.  For them to lie so viciously about something as innocuous as clear lines of authority in public pensions reveals the weakness of their position.  Kudos to Governor Abbott for refusing to be bullied.

  1. Josh is a neighbor of mine and a very smart guy. He knows his stuff. Good for him. Good for Abbott.
