#HAILSATANTX: Democrat Push Poll attempting to dupe Gullible Republicans

"You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
John 8:44

Republicans better be real, real, careful on the border crisis, says the Dallas Morning News:
Three-quarters of South Texas Hispanics say they want fair treatment of the Central American youngsters pouring into the state, and about two-thirds would vote against a politician who favors immediately deporting the children, according to a poll released Monday by a Democratic political action committee.

Houston trial lawyer and Democratic donor Steve Mostyn funds Back to Basics PAC, which has been a strong critic of Gov. Rick Perry. Mostyn’s PAC commissioned the poll, which was completed last week by Washington-based Lake Research Partners.
Steve Mostyn, of course, is this guy:

Meanwhile, this is the founder of Lake Research Partners:
Celinda Lake is one of the Democratic Party's leading political strategists, serving as tactician and senior advisor to the national party committees, dozens of Democratic incumbents, and challengers at all levels of the electoral process. Celinda and her firm are known for cutting-edge research on issues including the economy, health care, the environment and education, and have worked for a number of institutions including the Democratic National Committee (DNC), the Democratic Governor's Association (DGA), Next Generation, AFL-CIO, SEIU, AFSCME, NEA, AFT, IAFF, Sierra Club, EcoAmerica, Planned Parenthood, Human Rights Campaign, EMILY's List, the Kaiser Family Foundation and The RWJ Foundation. Her work has also taken her to advise fledgling democratic parties in several post-war Eastern European countries, including Ukraine, and South Africa. In 2008, Celinda worked as pollster for Vice President Biden.
Tellingly, neither the DMN nor Back to Basics PAC released a PDF of the poll.

That's strange, considering that the Democrat poll conflicts with a separate poll last week:
A new poll from Economist/YouGov shows how badly that plan backfired -- even among Hispanics.

Rather than convince the American people that passing a mass amnesty is what's needed, the burst of border coverage earlier this month convinced 77% of the American people that the kids need to be sent back home. A full 42% want the kids sent back immediately regardless of what's happening in their home countries. Add to that another 35% who want them sent back unless their home country is deemed unsafe.

Only 11% want what Obama, Democrats, and the media want -- which is amnesty for everyone.

The numbers are not all that different among Hispanics. Only 22% want to give the children amnesty. A full 64% want the children deported. Of that 64%, 28% want them deported immediately; 36% want them deported unless their home country is deemed unsafe.

That puts Hispanics almost perfectly in line with the rest of country.
By contrast, you can read the YouGov poll here.

To summarize: An uber-wealthy Democrat donor pays a Democrat polling firm who gets a Democrat friendly result.  They leak it to a separate Democrat friendly news outlet.  None of the above parties actually makes the poll they're citing public.  Meanwhile, the poll that contradicts these findings is available for anyone to see.  But cower in fear, Republicans, because Steve Mostyn clearly has your best interests at heart....

Republican Primary Statewide Endorsement List

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge."
Hosea 4:6

We hadn't intended to post a statewide candidate list.  Enough people have asked us to do so, however, that we humbly oblige.   We are flattered and honored that you value our opinion.

Governor:  Greg Abbott

This is the easiest call on the list.  Rick Perry has been, on net, an outstanding Governor.  Greg Abbott has been a critical ally.  Where they differ, the differences favor Abbott.  While we urge Abbott to be much more confrontational with the legislature, maintaining the status quo Rick Perry bequeaths is already a big win.

Lt. Governor:  NO ENDORSEMENT.

Attorney General:  Ken Paxton (previously endorsed).

Continuing to nurse hurt feelings over something that happened three years ago, during a different era in Tea Party history, is insane; Vote Ken Paxton.

Comptroller:  Debra Medina

This is the toughest call of the 2014 cycle.  In our view, Debra Medina is the candidate whose natural talents align closest with the duties of comptroller.  As Texas' chief financial officer, the Comptroller deals with money.  A long time Ron Paul confidant, Medina has a knack for fiscal policy we've always admired.  We expect Medina to be a gigantic pain in the ass to a lot of people who deserve one.

That being said, many people we know and respect support Glenn Hegar.  That's fine, Glenn Hegar is a good man who was very helpful behind the scenes.  If he wins, he will perform solidly.

Unlike Debra Medina, there is an actual Joe Straus lieutenant in this race.  Cahnman's Musings would prefer not to help build his name recognition or website traffic.  Empower Texans has everything you need to know here.

Land Commissioner:  David Watts Jr.

The current Land Commissioner has abused his office in a way that makes it impossible to support his campaign for Lt. Gov.  David Watts Jr. is the only candidate to address this abuse.  While we're discussing this race, Cahnman's Musings has also had enough of politicians named George Bush, thank you very much.

Agriculture Commissioner:  Sid Miller

Sid Miller isn't perfect.  Unfortunately, the alternatives are a buffoon, a Democrat, or Tommy Merritt.  We reserve the right to support Kinky Friedman in the general.

Railroad Commissioner: Wayne Christian

Despite the name, the Texas Rail Road Commission is the primary regulator of Texas booming energy sector.  To be honest, we wanted Wayne Christian to run for U.S. Senate, but he's running for Railroad Commission instead.  As commissioner, Wayne Christian will protect fracking and anger the business as usual crowd.

U.S. Senate: Steve Stockman (previously endorsed)

Last week, John Cornyn re-enforced everything we knew.  While good people disagree on the best alternative, the objective this round is only to hold Cornyn under 50%.  Personally, we believe Steve Stockman is a pest similar to (retired NHL star) Esa Tikkannen, which is exactly what the U.S. Senate needs.

Texas Supreme Court: Re-elect ALL incumbents

This is the Jeremiah 17:9 race of this cycle.

Over the past two months, there's been a Democrat-financed whisper campaign against incumbent Texas Supreme Court Justices Nathan Hecht, Phil Johnson, and Jeff Brown.  Cahnman's Musings was offered this story as an exclusive last December.  We were astonished when the person who fed us this story admitted the purpose was to embarrass Rick Perry.

Fortunately, the truth has emerged.  Anyone who supports the challengers is, at best, a useful idiot for Steve Mostyn. It's a shame certain people chose to permanently tarnish thier credibility.

-----

Cahnman's Musings also encourages readers to do their own homework regarding candidates closer to home; off the top of our head, we know readers in Bexar, Dallas, and Tarrant counties have local primaries with statewide implications.

Those are our primary endorsements, take the or leave them.

The Utter Collapse of Texas Democrats: On Steve Mostyn and the Federalists circa 1815

For about two years, I've heard rumors around Austin that Texas Democrats are on the verge of long-term catastrophic collapse.  While there are many reasons for this situation, the Obama administration's total, probably criminal, and potentially treasonous failure to secure our border is the primary reason.  I've briefly addressed this before, and occasionally a new piece of evidence pops up that needs to be acknowledged.

Yesterday, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility published a blog post that contained the following gem:
For at least a decade, Texas trial lawyers have underwritten the activities of the liberal, grow-government crowd. With the influence of the Democratic Party waning even further, the trial lawyers are moving their dollars into key GOP contests around the state.
The blog then goes on catalog several Republican state legislative primaries in which Steve Mostyn has involved himself.  For those of you unaware, Steve Mostyn is the George Soros of Texas.  Much like Soros, Steve Mostyn's ultimate goal is to enact a radical leftist agenda, NOT the Democrat Party.  That Mostyn is astroturfing in Republican primaries instead of attempting to elect Democrats in the General reveals A LOT.

What really struck me, however, was the similarity between what's happening to Texas Democrats right now and what happened to the original Federalist Party during James Madison's second term.  As Larry Schweikart explains in A Patriot's History of the United States:
Politically, the Federalist Party died, its last stalwarts slinking into the Republican opposition and forming a viable new National Republican caucus....In this way they were able to continue to expound Hamilton's program of tariffs, banks, and subsidized industrialism, but do so in a new democratic rhetoric that appealed to the common man. (177)
This is important because I think it foreshadows a technique we're going to see a lot more of in future election cycles.  Democrats are going to be wiped out in 2012.  Once that happens,  I expect to see attempts by the radical left and big business rent-seekers to infiltrate our side.  As long as we're prepared, they won't succeed, but we have to be prepared for this tactic because it's an obvious move for them.

I strongly suspect we're going to see astroturf groups with Conservative sounding names spring up after the election and before the 2013 Legislative Session.
