Mitt vs. Dubya: Energy Policy

If you don't believe the Tea Party has already influenced the Republican Party, I invite you to contrast Mitt's Energy proposal with George W. Bush's proposal from seven years ago.

The first section on Mitt's energy proposal is "Empower States to Control Onshore Energy Development"

• States will be empowered to establish processes to oversee the development and production of all forms of energy on federal lands within their borders, excluding only lands specially designated off-limits

• State regulatory processes and permitting programs for all forms of energy development will be deemed to satisfy all requirements of federal law

• Federal agencies will certify state processes as adequate, according to established criteria that are sufficiently broad, to afford the states maximum flexibility to ascertain what is most appropriate

• The federal government will encourage the formation of a State Energy Development Council, where states can work together along with existing organizations such as STRONGER and the IOGCC to share expertise and best management practices.

In comparison, Dubya's ambition was limited to:

direct[ing] federal agencies to work with states to encourage the building of new refineries -- on closed military facilities, for example -- and to simplify the permitting process for such construction.

In other words, where Dubya wanted to cut a little red tape at the federal level, Mitt's starting point is to dramatically reduce Washington D.C.'s role.  It's also worth noting that Mitt spends a lot less time promoting 'alternative' energy sources than the alleged oilman George W. Bush.

I might have more to say about Mitt's energy proposals in the next few days; for now, I want to point out that this is a surprisingly tenth-amendment friendly proposal to come directly from a Presidential candidate.

Don't tell me the Tea Party hasn't already had a dramatic influence on the GOP.

The Walk of Shame Democrats

I've been trying to characterize the Democrat convention since it opened; today, it hit me.

The Democrat convention was a walk of shame.

The lame excuses and justifications Democrats offered for the corrupt devastation of the Barack Obama years are just as pathetic as the lame excuses and justifications people offer after one-night stands.

The walk of shame Democrats cannot defend 8%+ unemployment (which would be closer to 11% if they weren't cooking the books), $16 trillion in debt, health care corruption, running guns to Mexico, and appeasement abroad.  Instead, they excuse and justify their actions.  The walk of shame Democrats tell us "the crisis was worse than we thought," "Obama saved the auto industry," or "we got bin Laden."

Unfortunately, for the walk of shame Democrats, none of this is true.  Barack Obama didn't exactly undersell the crisis.  Obama's takeover of the auto companies was a corrupt boondoggle that rewarded Obama's union cronies.  Obama's version of the bin Laden raid is a fairy tale.  The walk of shame Democrats offer excuses and justifications to avoid the consequences of their actions.

The Barack Obama years wrought an orgy of destruction.  Incomes are down.  Divorce rates are up.  Food Stamp records are shattered.  Undaunted, the walk of shame Democrats ask America to continue gambling with the wages of sin.

We learned a lot about Democrats in Charlotte.  Facing entrenched unemployment, a looming debt crisis, and impending peril abroad, the walk of shame Democrats chose to define themselves as the party of subsidized fornication.  Sadly, that's all you need to know.

Actor Kal Penn spoke at the DNC last night; it's the single DUMBEST speech I've ever seen given at a political event:



Kal Penn is a moron.  Anyone who takes this speech seriously is also a moron.

Are Democrats Just Stupid?!?

I have a morbid fascination with this years Democrat convention.  Thus, I'm actually watching it.  It's bizarrely fascinating.

The best example of the tripe Democrats are serving is this quote from former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland:

Vince Lombardi was right when he said, "It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get back up." And my friends Ina Sydney, Brian Slagle and James Fayson were all knocked down. But Ina, Brian and James are all standing today. The auto industry is standing today. The middle class is standing today. Ohio is standing today. America is standing strong today.

Of course, the notion that Obama's government takeover of the auto companies was anything other than a corrupt boondoggle for Obama's union cronies is easily disprovable.

Democrats, however, believe this crap.

A friend recently told me "Marxism is the evil leading the stupid."  I agree.  Watching the DNC last night, however, I'm thinking rank-and-file Democrats are a lot stupider than I thought.

#BETTERPUTSOMEICEONTHAT -- A Modest Proposal for Bill Clinton's Speech

If you're at all like me, you're flabbergasted Bill Clinton is giving a prime-time speech at a convention designed to highlight this bogus "War on Women."

Yeah, that Bill Clinton; the same Bill Clinton who raped Juanita Brodderick.

First things first, who is Juanita Brodderick?!?

In 1978, Juanita Brodderick owned a nursing home in Arkansas that Bill Clinton visited during his first run for Governor.  Clinton invited Brodderick to visit the campaign office during her upcoming visit to Little Rock.  Upon arriving, Clinton suggested meeting in her hotel room to avoid the 'noise' of a public place.  Once they were alone, Clinton assaulted and raped Brodderick.  As he left a devastated Brodderick, Clinton told her "you better put some ice on that," referring to her busted lip.

And yet, according to the media, it's Republicans waging a war on Women.

Bullcrap.

Thus, I make the following proposal: tonight, during Bill Clinton's speech, tweet a picture of ice with the hashtag #BETTERPUTSOMEICEONTHAT.  Remind the American people about Juanita Brodderick.  Don't get mad, conservatives, get on Twitter!!!

On Republican "Obstruction"

One of the pieces of tripe I expect the Democrats to push at their convention is the canard that the mean Republicans have obstructed our poor little manchild President.  Bull-crap.  Except for cap-and-trade (*), Barack Obama has gotten every major legislative priority he set.

• Barack Obama got his $800 billion stimulus.

• Barack Obama got Cash for Clunkers.

• Barack Obama got Sonia Sotomayor confirmed to the Supreme Court.

• Barack Obama got his corrupt, destructive, Health Care law.

• Barack Obama got Elena Kagan confirmed to the Supreme Court.

• Barack Obama got his Financial reform law that doesn't do squat to end 'too big to fail'

• Barack Obama got his disastrous arms control treaty with Vladimir Putin.

• Barack Obama got his debt ceiling increase.

• Barack Obama didn't have his war in Libya defunded.

• Barack Obama got his indefinite detention law.

• Barack Obama got his payroll "tax cut" extension.

Republicans haven't obstructed squat.  Obama has accomplished his entire legislative agenda (except cap-and-trade).  The results speak for themselves.
