Bush Progeny's Revealing Reminder of Family History

Barbara Pierce Bush, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, will headline a Planned Parenthood fundraiser in North Texas on Wednesday.

She will be the keynote speaker at Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas' annual Fort Worth luncheon, helping to raise money for an organization that provides an array of reproductive and sexual health services, including abortions.

But it's not entirely unexpected. Bush's mother, former First Lady Laura Bush, has expressed support for the legality of abortion on a handful of occasions. The younger Bush, the CEO and co-founder of Global Health Corps, called Planned Parenthood an "exceptional organization" in a June New York Times interview, and attended a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in Paris in October.

The family history:

Jeb Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush, was an active supporter of Planned Parenthood, which was founded by Margaret Sanger in 1921 as the American Birth Control League. In 1947, Bush served as treasurer of the group's first national fundraising campaign—a move he would soon come to regret. In 1950, Prescott Bush narrowly lost an election for a US Senate seat in Connecticut after a columnist revealed his connection to the "Birth Control Society."

Bottom Line: Never ever, ever forget that the Bush crime family helped turn Planned Parenthood into the genocidal force it is to day; any pro-life pretenses any of them make are politically convenient lies.

For obvious reasons, we've refrained from discussing the Robert Morrow/TCRP situation; that being said, we attended Morrow's swearing in ceremony and the subsequent business meeting and we think they've handled the whole situation about as well as they could have.

The most important takeaway is that the executive committee approved changes to the party bylaws that remove all powers from the chairman that can be removed under state law.  The executive committee created a new "executive vice chairman" position to oversee the party's day-to-day operations.  They also elected a steering committee to assist the executive vice chairman.

As for Robert Morrow: Morrow was Morrow.  During his 27 minute inaugural address, he outlined the crimes of which he accuses the past half century of senior American political leadership.  He specifically discussed Lyndon Johnson's role in the Kennedy assassination and George Bush 41's pedophilia.

That being said, following his inaugural address, Morrow called the meeting to order and presided over the bylaw changes without incident.

Truthfully, this incident reveals a shortcoming in state law.  Regardless of how we got here, it's absurd that there is no path for a county party's executive committee to remove a chairman for cause.  The legislature really should act next session.

We spoke last night with steering committee member T.J. Scott who asked "for every precinct chair to pray over how they could best serve their party"; T.J. called the current situation an "all hands on deck" moment.

Random Thoughts about Joe Straus

We attended the Trib's event with Joe Straus this morning.  You can watch the video below.  Rather than summarize the event, however, we'd like to share some lessons we've learned about him over over the years.



For Your Consideration:

• The biggest lesson we've ever had to learn about Straus is that he's a symptom, not the disease.  The real disease is the go-along-get-along good ol' boy insider culture of the legislature, especially on the House side.  Straus is a product of that culture, and he certainly perpetuates it, but he didn't create that culture and it wouldn't go away overnight if he were to disappear.

• Ironically enough, when asked this morning about his proudest accomplishment as Speaker, Straus listed the "collaborative" culture of the Texas House.
• Author's Note: In this context, "collaborative" is a euphemism for "lobbyist dominated."

• Straus' policy agenda is popular in his district and with a critical mass of the members of the House.

• On the flip side, Straus' policy agenda is toxic in many of those members' districts.

• When Straus' defenders say "He just lets the will of the House be done" there's a lot of truth to that statement.  In the Texas House, there is a gigantic disconnect between the will of the members and the will of the voters.  The solution is for the voters to elect new members.

• The Straus family is DEEPLY embedded in the San Antonio establishment.

• Similarly, the Straus family and the Bush family go waaay back.  In his appearance this morning Straus explained that his family and the Bush family have been active together in Republican politics in Texas for over 50 years.  On that note, it's worth reminding that George Bush 41 was the Republican U.S. Senate nominee in 1964.

• Unlike the Federal level, where there have occasionally been periods of reform once people become sufficiently fed up, the lobbyist dominated insider culture of the Texas Legislature was never challenged until the Tea Party came along.

• A lot of the challenges we face derive from the institutional inertia of the legislature, rather than the personality of a particular leader.

• While it's a four year old incident, we ought to make a bigger deal than we have in recent years about the fact that Joe Straus and Barack Obama have used IDENTICAL language to describe economic policy.

• Joe Straus has a history of appointing "Republican" chairs to important committees that are more liberal than Wendy Davis.
• Author's Note: It's worth specifically pointing out the Chairs of the Appropriations committee the past two sessions each fall into this category.

• One area where we need to improve is our performance in open seat races.  In 2014, we beat 5 incumbents with lousy records.  Unfortunately, we left some races on the table where the terrible incumbent retired and was replaced by a lobby candidate who had yet to develop a record.
• Author's Note: That being said, that level of churn isn't sustainable over time.

• Unfortunately, a lot of the Republicans in the Texas House aren't particularly conservative.

Obama helps to expand Julian Castro's machine

"So taxpayer revenue is used to hire sate workers, who are always unionized. Those state workers (who are unionized) must pay union dues. In many states, the deduction of dues is automatic. The employee does not write a check. It's simply deducted from his state payroll check or deposit. So when a public sector employee pays union dues, where does that money end up? A portion of it ends up somewhere in the giant Democrat Party nationwide, statewide campaign apparatus. So private citizens, in Wisconsin and elsewhere, end up donating to the Democrat Party via state and public workers. It's a money laundering operation, and that's what the Porkulus bill was. It was to make sure that during the recession, state workers did not lose their jobs so that Democrats did not lose their campaign money. Pure and simple, that's it."

Last week, President Obama five new federal 'promise zones.'  San Antonio made the cut.  According to the White House:

San Antonio, TX (Eastside Neighborhood) 

The City of San Antonio’s key strategies include: 

• Focusing on job creation and training, including through a partnership with St. Philip’s College, in key growth areas including energy, health care, business support, aerospace/advanced manufacturing, and construction. 

• Empowering every child with the skills they need by increasing enrollment in high quality pre-K programs; installing a STEM focus in the local school district; expanding enrollment in Early College Programs; and improving adult education opportunities. 

• Expanding public safety activities to facilitate neighborhood revitalization; improved street lighting and demolishing abandoned buildings; and integrated public safety activities with social resources.

San Antonio's mayor reacted predictably:

San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro said “this is a promising investment in creating more job opportunities and revitalizing neighborhoods on the East Side.” 

Castro said the federal application process can be “labyrinthine” and difficult to complete correctly. 

“So to have the technical assistance and have the red tape cut will make a difference in the likelihood of having success at getting funding in the future,” Castro said.

Obama's 'promise zones,' are an ass-backwards economic development strategy.  But Obama's 'promise zones' aren't about economic development.  Obama's 'promise zone' is a smokescreen for Battleground Texas.

In 1966, Lyndon Johnson launched the 'model cities' initiative.  Detroit was one of Johnson's targets.  While model cities was economically cataclysmic, it was a political windfall for Lyndon Johnson's coalition.  Inserting a progressive machine into America's industrial heartland fundamentally transformed its culture.  Productive citizens fled, while the dependent underclass that remained reliably voted for more government.  Detroit hasn't voted for a Republican mayor since.  George Bush 41 was the last Republican presidential candidate to win the state.

Julian Castro, to be fair, knows a thing or two about building a political machine.  He uses the people's money to reward friends.  He attempts to destroy opponents.  But Julian Castro has well documented statewide ambitions.  An army of progressive organizers, masquerading as federal 'promise zone' facilitators, allows Castro to expand the coalitions of power he'll need for a statewide run.

Dear Mr. President,

The American Electorate has Changed; Scott Walker is Proof!!!

The American Electorate has changed over the past five years.  The 2010 Tea Party Landslide was the first revelation of this fact.  Gov. Scott Walker's easy win Tuesday proves the depth of this shift.

The American People are indignant that the people who created this mess are asking for more power to continue the scam.  The American people understand that we've been sold a bill of goods over the past 100 years and that the game can no longer continue.  Prior to 1913, Federal Spending never exceeded 5% of GDP (except for the middle of the Civil War) and we need to return to those levels.  The individual bogeymen vary, from Federal housing policy, to The Federal Reserve, to Public Sector Unions, but their shared root cause is big government aggrandizing and enriching itself at the expense of decent people.  The American people understand the cause of this mess.

The American people have never been fans of gauzy, go-along to get-along centrism.  The Perot movement, which emerged in 1992, was a reaction to the Bush 41 administration's aggrandizement of Washington D.C. at the expense of Americans.  As Doug Schoen and Scott Rasmussen detail in their book Mad as Hell: How the Tea Party Movement is Fundamentally Remaking our Two-Party System:

Perot-era populism -- sparked by President George H.W. Bush's broken promise of 'no-new taxes' -- has never really left our politics....The resurgence of populism we are experiencing today is a continuation of the populist uprising of 1992 in the same way that World War II was a continuation of World War I, with a period in between that appeared quieter than it really was.  Also, just like the World Wars, the second act of the Perot-era is likely to provoke far more turbulence and far bigger changes on the political battlefields of 21st-century America. (47)

TARP followed by Obamacare forced decent people to stop complaining and become active.  Now that we're active, it's becoming increasingly easier to draw the widest possible contrast between decent people and the Left.

Madison is the New Democratic Core, which means that the Democrats are down to hippies and Union Thugs.  As Michael Barone has documented, decent people have grown to despise Democrat client groups. This shift is why historical modeling is inadequate to understand what's coming in November.  The lies of the past 100 years have been exposed, and the American people are awake.  This election isn't just about replacing Barack Obama, it isn't even just about repealing the excesses of the past decade; this election is about dismantling the lies of the past 100 years and restoring who we really are.

Think big people.  As Rush has explained for years, "Conservatism Wins, Every Time It's Tried."  Wisconsin is proof.
