(Dr.) Ron Paul calls for firing Fauci

Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let My people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’ ”
Exodus 5:1

Interesting:

(h/t. The Hayride)

Obviously, Ron Paul isn't the first person to advocate this position...but there are a few reasons why it's probably worth giving him a listen:

  1. He's a medical doctor.
(That he's a medical doctor who doesn't take everything the medical cartel says at face value is a bonus.)
  2. His own son went through Coronavirus.
Thus, Ron Paul is probably has the life/personal/political experience to make a good judgement on this issue.

Bottom Line: When medical doctors who've had family members who've dealt with this virus start arguing this position...it's probably worth giving them a listen.

Abbott Endorses Cloud in CD-27 SPECIAL ELECTION

"Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life."
Proverbs 4:23

We didn't realize election day was tomorrow:

Highlights:

  • Cloud was county chair in Victoria county.
  • Need a representative to advocate for the district post Hurricane Harvey.
  • Takes shot at Farenthold: "Restore integrity to the office."
Bottom Line: A clean win for Cloud tomorrow would allow him to get a head start on shaking up the Texas Delegation before the re-enforcements arrive next year.

CD-27 Runoff: Cloud Running Strong Campaign....

"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
Galatians 6:9

In the race to succeed the disgraced Blake Farenthold, the Trib takes notice of Michael Cloud's surprisingly strong first round performance:
In December, U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold drew national attention when, in the middle of a sexual harassment scandal, he announced he was not running for another term. Yet the race to replace the Corpus Christi Republican has been one of the state's most under-the-radar contests.

That was, in part, because many have assumed Bech Bruun, the former Texas Water Board Commission chairman and most prominent candidate in the 6-way Republican primary, was a safe bet to take over the seat.

But last month, Bruun just narrowly placed first in the March 6 primary with 36 percent of the vote. Close behind him was former Victoria County GOP Chairman Michael Cloud at 34 percent.

That margin surprised more than a few political insiders in the state, who assumed Bruun, who has ties to the state's GOP leadership and has racked up a string of prominent endorsements, would either avoid a runoff entirely or come much closer than he did to drawing the majority support needed to do so.

But Cloud is putting up a tenacious fight that is leaving more than a few Texas political insiders less sure of who might win the GOP nomination in the May 22nd runoff.

....

Cloud, a current member of the State Republican Executive Committee, had been running for the seat since early October, two months before Farenthold announced his retirement. And Bruun said that while he decided to run after Hurricane Harvey hit the region in late August, he held off from announcing his run for Congress until December, when his time at the water board was winding down.

....

Cloud is running as "a constitutional conservative," with an emphasis on border security and scaling back the power of the federal government. And he argued in remarks in Port Lavaca in February that his early bid suggests an added layer of sincerity in his campaign.

"If you followed the race, we got involved back in October," he said. "The landscape was completely different, and then news happened that shifted the race. That news happened a week before the filing deadline."

He then implicitly criticized the other candidates who entered the race in that time period, including Bruun.

"We got in the race because I looked at what was happening in our nation, and I felt like we needed something to happen," he added. "And I felt like we needed to send people who had the courage, who had the conviction to stand up to a culture of corruption in Washington, D.C. So that's what got me into this race, that was the message from the beginning."

....

But Cloud had clearly built a following with his head start. He also has the endorsements of former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, one of the country’s most prominent libertarian-leaning politicians; David Barton, an influential evangelical activist and author; and the four Republican candidates who did not make the runoff.

Farenthold, the scandal-tarred incumbent, has not endorsed in the race and neither candidate appears to be pursuing his support.
Bottom Line:  On the one hand, you've got a personal friend of Ron Paul.  On the other hand, you've got a Todd Hunter crony who's a key player in Texas' corrupt water polices.  This decision isn't difficult.

Ron Paul endorses Michael Cloud (in the Blake Farenthold district)

"As iron sharpens iron,
So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend."
Proverbs 27:17

We had intended to do a deeper investigation of Blake Farenthold's challengers but, from the inbox, this certainly clarifies:
Ron Paul Endorses Michael Cloud in Congressional Race

Lake Jackson – Ron Paul, a long-time Texas Republican congressman and three-time presidential candidate, has announced his endorsement of Michael Cloud, who is running for Congress in the 27th District of Texas.

“I worked with Michael when he served in the Victoria Young Republicans Club, and again when he was Chairman of the Victoria County GOP. I know him to be a man of his word, principled, trustworthy and hardworking,” said Paul. “I hope my former supporters will get behind him because our country desperately needs leaders with integrity, courage and moral character. Michael Cloud is that kind of leader.”

Paul represented Texans in Congress for 24 years, retiring in 2013. He is widely considered the leader of the modern-day Liberty movement.

Cloud announced his candidacy in September 2017, vowing to “fight the culture of corruption in Washington.”

Cloud, a business owner, currently represents 21 counties as a member of the State Republican Executive Committee. He was elected to four terms as chair of the Victoria County Republican Party and has served on staff at Faith Family Church in Victoria, Texas. Cloud and his wife Rosel have three children.

“I am very honored by this endorsement,” said Cloud. “And I thank the good doctor for his confidence in me.”
Based on Farenthold's lousy voting record, the choice between the incumbent and a Ron Paul supporter is easy on policy grounds alone.  But this is Blake Farenthold we're discussing.  So the incumbent's 'issues' obviously extend beyond policy considerations.

There's a third candidate in the race.  For now, we don't want to help him build name recognition.  Suffice to say, the third candidate is an ex-Todd Hunter staffer.

Bottom Line: The contrast speaks for itself.

Zimmerman proposes Travis County #VOTEBOMB this THURSDAY!!!

Council Member Zimmerman illustrating how his presence on Council has diluted red ink into pink.

"And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins."
Mark 2:22

Scholz Garten -- At tonight's meeting of Texans for Accountable Government, Austin City Council member Don Zimmerman came up with an idea we wish he'd thought of two months ago.  Where Ron Paul's campaign created the concept of the "moneybomb," Zimmerman proposes a #VoteBomb where supporters of Uber and Lyft, opponents of the Travis County Courthouse proposal, and supporters of Property tax relief (State of Texas Prop 1) vote en masse on this Thursday.  It's VERY late in the game, and we don't expect much from this, but it's a shot worth taking:

Highlights:
  • Right now, turnout in Travis County for the Texas Constitutional amendments and the Travis County Courthouse is about 1,500 votes.
  • What would happen if just the Uber/Lyft supporters who showed up at last week's council meeting came out to vote on the same day?!?
  • Bureaucrats are pushing Uber/Lyft restrictions the public doesn't want.
  • A #VOTEBOMB would send more of a message than "10,000 emails [that] have had no effect."
Local Activist Trent Pool also discussed the Courthouse Bond:

Highlights:

  • "Travis County voters have a chance to vote against the Travis County Prop.1 bond."
  • The location was "set in mind" without a genuine discussion of location.
  • Not enough parking.
  • "Don's proposal to build it on the East Side makes a lot of sense."
  • "No furniture included in the bond"...will cost another $50 million.
Bottom Line: We understand it's late in the game.  We understand saying "use your vote on an unrelated courthouse bond to express your position on Uber/Lyft" is a longer soundbite than most voters can handle.  That being said, if you're liberty minded and have yet to vote in the Texas' Fall 2015 election, THURSDAY would be a GREAT day to vote.

Don Zimmerman meets opponent at RLC Debate

"Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,"
Ephesians 6:14

Don Zimmerman faced off with his opponent in the Austin City Council district 6 runoff tonight.  While the debate was friendly and the candidates had meaningful areas of agreement, there was a clear difference in style.  Don's opponent argues that the district would be better served by a go-along-to-get-along representative, Don argues in favor of shaking up the status quo.

Highlights:
  • Libertarian leaning "Ron Paul Republican"
  • Political liberty is a very, very, serious thing.
  • I'm all for singing kumbaya, but there comes a time you have to stand up for your liberties.
  • "I'm the only candidate in this city who has actually abolished a property tax."
Debate Notes:
  • Opponent has background in "workforce development"
  • Don on traffic: "We need road expansion."
    • Opposes rail on Guadelupe: "Just no good for moving people."
  • Opponent: Transportation problems are caused by land use.
  • Opponent endorses something along the lines of zero-based budgeting.
  • Don: "The spending habits have got to be broken."
    • Audit the City.
    • New City Manager.
  • Don: Homestead exemption "a step in the right direction."
    • Eliminate City Economic Development department.
    • 3% across the board budget cut.
    • Spending drives taxes.
  • Opponent: Restructure Austin Energy and Water.
  • Opponent: Militarization of police "frightening."
  • Don: Appoint "technical people and engineers" to boards and commissions.
  • Don: Against sanctuary cities.
    • Opponent: For sanctuary cities.
  • Don: Singing kumbaya doesn't work.

Highlights:
  • City government doesn't respect rule of law.

Highlights:
  • Got to make city government follow rule of law.
  • Audit all city departments.
  • The people who know him best put him over the top.

Republican Primary Statewide Endorsement List

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge."
Hosea 4:6

We hadn't intended to post a statewide candidate list.  Enough people have asked us to do so, however, that we humbly oblige.   We are flattered and honored that you value our opinion.

GovernorGreg Abbott

This is the easiest call on the list.  Rick Perry has been, on net, an outstanding Governor.  Greg Abbott has been a critical ally.  Where they differ, the differences favor Abbott.  While we urge Abbott to be much more confrontational with the legislature, maintaining the status quo Rick Perry bequeaths is already a big win.

Lt. GovernorNO ENDORSEMENT.

Attorney GeneralKen Paxton (previously endorsed).

Continuing to nurse hurt feelings over something that happened three years ago, during a different era in Tea Party history, is insane; Vote Ken Paxton.

Comptroller:  Debra Medina

This is the toughest call of the 2014 cycle.  In our view, Debra Medina is the candidate whose natural talents align closest with the duties of comptroller.  As Texas' chief financial officer, the Comptroller deals with money.  A long time Ron Paul confidant, Medina has a knack for fiscal policy we've always admired.  We expect Medina to be a gigantic pain in the ass to a lot of people who deserve one.

That being said, many people we know and respect support Glenn Hegar.  That's fine, Glenn Hegar is a good man who was very helpful behind the scenes.  If he wins, he will perform solidly.

Unlike Debra Medina, there is an actual Joe Straus lieutenant in this race.  Cahnman's Musings would prefer not to help build his name recognition or website traffic.  Empower Texans has everything you need to know here.

Land CommissionerDavid Watts Jr.

The current Land Commissioner has abused his office in a way that makes it impossible to support his campaign for Lt. Gov.  David Watts Jr. is the only candidate to address this abuse.  While we're discussing this race, Cahnman's Musings has also had enough of politicians named George Bush, thank you very much.

Agriculture Commissioner:  Sid Miller

Sid Miller isn't perfect.  Unfortunately, the alternatives are a buffoon, a Democrat, or Tommy Merritt.  We reserve the right to support Kinky Friedman in the general.

Railroad Commissioner: Wayne Christian

Despite the name, the Texas Rail Road Commission is the primary regulator of Texas booming energy sector.  To be honest, we wanted Wayne Christian to run for U.S. Senate, but he's running for Railroad Commission instead.  As commissioner, Wayne Christian will protect fracking and anger the business as usual crowd.

U.S. Senate: Steve Stockman (previously endorsed)

Last week, John Cornyn re-enforced everything we knew.  While good people disagree on the best alternative, the objective this round is only to hold Cornyn under 50%.  Personally, we believe Steve Stockman is a pest similar to (retired NHL star) Esa Tikkannen, which is exactly what the U.S. Senate needs.

Texas Supreme Court: Re-elect ALL incumbents

This is the Jeremiah 17:9 race of this cycle.

Over the past two months, there's been a Democrat-financed whisper campaign against incumbent Texas Supreme Court Justices Nathan Hecht, Phil Johnson, and Jeff Brown.  Cahnman's Musings was offered this story as an exclusive last December.  We were astonished when the person who fed us this story admitted the purpose was to embarrass Rick Perry.

Fortunately, the truth has emerged.  Anyone who supports the challengers is, at best, a useful idiot for Steve Mostyn. It's a shame certain people chose to permanently tarnish thier credibility.

-----

Cahnman's Musings also encourages readers to do their own homework regarding candidates closer to home; off the top of our head, we know readers in Bexar, Dallas, and Tarrant counties have local primaries with statewide implications.

-----

Those are our primary endorsements, take the or leave them.

Rick Perry, Marijuana, and our first conversation

[Author's Note: This picture was taken at the 2010 event described below.]

He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?
Micah 6:8

Last week, in Davos, Rick Perry made a comment about marijuana that ignited a media firestorm:
“As governor, I have begun to implement policies that start us toward a decriminalization” by introducing alternative “drug courts” that provide treatment and softer penalties for minor offenses"
The only noteworthy aspect of that statement is the reaction.  Perry was discussing criminal justice reforms Texas has put into place over the past decade.  Perry said nothing new.

In January 2010, during his last campaign for governor, Perry held an event with Andrew Breitbart.  This event was the first time we met the Governor.  In a private conversation on the side of that event, Perry described his administration's policy towards low level drug offenses using language that was nearly identical to what he said in Davos four years later.

At the time, Perry was fending off a primary challenge from Debra Medina (who, in 2014, is running for comptroller).  A long time Ron Paul acolyte, Medina is a well known critic of the war on drugs.  While Perry differentiated himself from Medina's position on drug legalization, he also made clear his belief that incarcerating people over low-level drug offenses is a counterproductive strategy that wastes a lot of money.

On a similar note, in his 2010 book Fed Up Perry wrote:
But perhaps most interesting is a movement I disagree, while appreciating the desire of Californians to decide for themselves -- and this is the issue of marijuana consumption.  A few years ago, Californians legalized the limited medicinal use of marijuana, but the Supreme Court struck this law down in Gonzales v. Raich, claiming that the federal government has the power to regulate activity that would have a substantial effect on interstate commerce.  Now, I am not sure the people of Texas would want to go down this road, but it sure seems to me that Justice Thomas got this one right when he said in dissent:..."Our federalist system, properly understood, allows California and a growing number of other States to decide for themselves how to safeguard the health and welfare of their citizens.  (164/5)
Rick Perry's policy towards low-level drug offences has always reflected his commitment to the Tenth Amendment and the fiscal lunacy of mass incarceration.  Rick Perry said nothing in Davos that he didn't say to us in 2010.  The real story is that the media belatedly chose to cover a Perry administration policy that has been in place for at least half-a-decade.

Barry Smitherman gets butt kicked in hometown straw poll -- is he viable?!?

Cahnman's Musings doesn't put much weight in straw polls.  As Ron Paul supporters have proved, straw polls are easy to manipulate.  Occasionally, however, a candidate will lose a straw poll so spectacularly (eg. Tim Pawlenty in 2011 or Sam Brownback in 2007) that their campaign becomes untenable.

Yesterday, that might have happened at the Take Back Harris County straw poll.

Last night, we went out to dinner with ten local conservative activists/bloggers, including Sunshine State Sarah (of Texas), who wrote yesterday:
Both Dan Patrick and Barry Smitherman are from the Houston area, and should have strong bases of support with the Montgomery County Tea Party. I've heard several people who have longer experience in Texas politics mention that Patrick and Smitherman will need to "run up the score" with Houston Republican primary voters to help balance the strongholds their competition has elsewhere in the state.
So, here we are with two Houston-area candidates in highly competitive primary races needing to get positive press that they do have support in Houston and are viable contenders. Let's look at how this Take Back Harris County straw poll comes into play.

....

Conservative Republicans of Texas is a PAC founded by Dr. Steve Hotze. Hotze has publicly endorsed Patrick and Smitherman, and multiple sources have told me that he is also an investor in Patrick's talk radio programs.
I did a little more digging and apparently the other organizers of this event are also political consultants: Vincent Harris, whose firm provides digital services to Patrick and Smitherman, and Allen Blakemore, who is the general consultant for Smitherman, as well as consulting for Patrick and Comptroller candidate Harvey Hilderbran.
In essence, what we have is some very smart consultants who know that strategically, Patrick and Smitherman need to make a show of strength in Houston to demonstrate viability, who have planned an event and added on a straw poll with limited tickets.
In other words, in an event that was deliberately designed to give Smitherman a cheap win and earned media, Ken Paxton whooped Smitherman's hide.

It's a free country, and Smitherman is welcome to stay in the race, but we wonder if Smitherman's donors will continue to throw good money after bad....

Could Pat Gray successfully challenge John Cornyn?!?

On tonight's television broadcast, Glenn Beck vowed to find a primary challenger to John Cornyn; this gives us an idea:

How about Pat?!?

One thing Glenn Beck will discover, if he's serious about finding a challenger to Cornyn, is that none of the obvious candidates wants to run:

  • We asked Louie Gohmert last summer (at Restoring Love): he said no.
  • We asked Rafael Cruz in April: he said he was too old.
  • We haven't personally spoken to Ron Paul, but a source who shall remain anonymous told us he wasn't interested in this race the same day we posted the blog linked above.
All of the folk listed above have been asked, all have said no.

Which brings us back to Pat.

Pat would enter this race with instant credibility.  Freedomworks already sponsors the radio show and, knowing Freedomworks as we do, we strongly suspect they'd endorse him.  There's your fundraising.

If Glenn Beck is serious about finding a challenger to John Cornyn, he can do a lot worse than the guy sitting next to him during the radio show.

Would Ron Paul challenge Senator John Cornyn?!?

This is a blog post we never thought we'd write; how times change.

Following their defeat in the 2012 election, the Republican establishment has attempted a massive power-grab, despite the fact that they were the ones who lost back-to-back Presidential elections.

It's not a secret that we've been looking for a primary challenge for John Cornyn for months.  It's also not a secret that we've been working with Ron Paul supporters on local issues.  It might be time to put two and two together.

Cahnman's Musings doesn't agree with Ron Paul on every aspect of foreign policy, but we oppose the current war in Syria.  We also don't trust John Cornyn.  Under current circumstances, Ron Paul would be a substantial improvement over John Cornyn.

A successful primary challenge requires two things: money and name recognition.  Ron Paul would begin a campaign with both.  If he were to run, Ron Paul would instantly become the favorite.

Louie Gohmert remains our top choice to challenge Cornyn, but Cahnman's Musings doubts he will run; assuming Gohmert's out, Ron Paul becomes an acceptable alternative.

Cahnman's Musings is hardly an anti-war publication.  We are, however, anti-THIS-war.  In 2014, an anti-war Republican doesn't frighten us.  A three-issue campaign, based upon avoiding war in Syria, dismantling the Federal Reserve, and dismantling Obamacare would go a long way in Texas.  It would certainly beat whatever horse manure John Cornyn might offer.

Ron Paul Rocks 1983 Congressional Baseball Game

And yes, that is Barney Frank doing color commentary:

Ron Paul goes 2 for 3 with a double, hit by pitch, reach on catcher's interference, and 2 RBI as the starting right fielder in the 1983 Congressional Baseball Game. Dr. Paul is a legendary player in the annual Congressional Baseball Game, being the only person to ever hit a home run over the fence in the game's 50 year history.

Obama's Record on Radical Islam

Today is the anniversary of the Ft. Hood jihadist attack workplace violence.  Obviously, tomorrow is election day.  Given this juxtaposition, now is an appropriate time to review his record.

One Note: Whoever wins tomorrow, we need to reconfigure our strategy in this conflict.  Obviously, Obama's approach has been a treasonous disaster, but the alternatives advanced by George W. Bush and Ron Paul aren't satisfactory either.  I've outlined broad principles here.

Barack Obama has:

  • Failed to stop the Christmas Day 2009 pantybomber despite having been warned by the guy's father six weeks before the attempted attack; despite this, Janet Napoletano said 'the system worked.'
  • Supported the Terrorist Victory Monument Islamic Cultural Center at Ground Zero.
  • Failed to renegotiate our Status of Forces agreement with the Iraqi government, squandering America's hard fought victory in Iraq.
  • Speaking of which, don't get me started on how much worse the TSA has gotten under Obama; the silver lining is that, in Barack Obama's economy, people can't afford to fly anywhere in the first place.
I did this list off the top of my head, so I've probably missed some stuff; feel free to add your 'favorites' in the comments.

On Mitt Romney and the Federal Reserve

The past few days, the media has thrown a hissy fit over Mitt's 47% comment; what's much more interesting, however, are Mitt's comments on that tape about Ben Bernanke and the Federal Reserve:
Yeah, it's interesting…the former head of Goldman Sachs, John Whitehead, was also the former head of the New York Federal Reserve. And I met with him, and he said as soon as the Fed stops buying all the debt that we're issuing—which they've been doing, the Fed's buying like three-quarters of the debt that America issues. He said, once that's over, he said we're going to have a failed Treasury auction, interest rates are going to have to go up. We're living in this borrowed fantasy world, where the government keeps on borrowing money. You know, we borrow this extra trillion a year, we wonder who's loaning us the trillion? The Chinese aren't loaning us anymore. The Russians aren't loaning it to us anymore. So who's giving us the trillion? And the answer is we're just making it up. The Federal Reserve is just taking it and saying, "Here, we're giving it.' It's just made up money, and this does not augur well for our economic future.
You know, some of these things are complex enough it's not easy for people to understand, but your point of saying, bankruptcy usually concentrates the mind.
Are you listening Ron Paul supporters?!?

Mitt Romney is calling for an end to printing money.  Mitt Romney supports audit the Fed.  Mitt Romney has pledged not to reappoint Ben Bernanke.  Heck, Mitt asked Bernanke not to do QE3.

Are you listening Ron Paul supporters?!?

The Ron Paul crowd has claimed, for years, that reigning in the Federal Reserve is their #1 priority.  Well, congratulations guys, you won.  The Republican party Presidential nominee opposes QE3 and supports Audit the Fed.  While he has yet to address the topic, I strongly suspect Mitt would sign a currency competition bill into law if Congress passed it.  Based on his previous public statements alone, Mitt Romney will give the Ron Paul crowd 70% of what they're asking on their #1 issue.

Can the Ron Paul crowd take yes for an answer?!?

This piece of audio is a test for the Ron Paul crowd.  Will they make a realistic decision based on evidence and facts, or would they rather be a 'persecuted' minority sulking over a perceived slight that wasn't that bad in the first place?!? On January 20th of next year, one of two men will be President.  One of them will give you 70% of what you want on your #1 issue; the alternative doesn't know the size of the national debt.  That one contrast should speak for itself.

25 productive steps for Ron Paul Supporters to take

My fellow RightOnline blogger Duane, over at AllAmericanBlog highlights 25 things Ron Paul Supporters can do besides voting for Gary Johnson, a sample:

  • Join the Republican Party:  You read that right.  Go to GOP.com and join up.  Get their newsletter.  Like them on Facebook. Follow them on Twitter.  Join the team.
  • Go the the GOP Website for Your State and Volunteer:  Missouri’s GOP website is www.mogop.org.  When I go there, I can volunteer to help the party.  Volunteering is often a great way to get your foot in the door.  Once you start volunteering and networking, then you can so something like #4, but first, you really should do #3.
  • Attend the County Party Committee Meeting:  The Republican Party has committees in each county.  Personally, I don’t know that my county ever meets.  If they do, they aren’t advertising when.  All you have to do is go to the GOP’s website for your state.  Find the page showing county committees and see who is on yours.  Reach out to them and find out when they are meeting next.  Attend the meeting and press the flesh.  Get to know these folks.  If you really try, you could be working with them someday.  Which brings us to…
  •  Become a Member of the County Party Committee:  How does one get on the county party committee? Right now, I don’t know. I never thought about trying to get on one. That’s a good question for you to ask when you attend your first meeting.  Once you are on the committee though, work hard politicking so you can…
  • Become the Chair of the County Party Committee:  Boom!  Now you’re doing it.  Running a county committee is a great way to actually start impacting the direction of the party.  And, done right, could open the door to #6.
  • Read the whole thing here.

    Ron Paul's Pathetic Twelve Percent

"if your organization is small in numbers, then do what Gideon did: conceal the members in the dark but raise a din and clamor that will make the listener believe that your organization numbers many more than it does."

    - Saul Alinsky, Rules for Radicals, p.126

The Ron Paul crowd had an opportunity to make a statement last night; they delivered less than 12%.

This is HUGE.  Yesterday's Texas Primary was the perfect storm (I apologize for the cliche, but it's appropriate) for the Ron Paul crowd.  The Presidential race was over.  There was a competitive U.S. Senate race, where Rick Santorum and Ron Paul endorsed the same candidate, which lowered the temperature between conservatives and Ron Paul types.  I actually have conservative friends who voted for Ron Paul as an anti-Romney protest vote.

For all those advantages; the Ron Paul crowd delivered less than 12%

    What does this mean?!?

It means that the Ron Paul crowd is a minority, and not a particularly large one at that.  Now look, I want to audit the Fed.  I'm growing increasingly comfortable with currency competition.  The Ron Paul crowd is excellent on Second Amendment issues.

If the Ron Paul crowd wants to have an impact, then they need to come to terms with their minority status.  Then they need to grow up.  Ayn Rand makes some excellent points on economics, but her overall philosophy is terrifying as a basis for society.

    I won't hold my breath.

    Texas Primary Election Quick Takes

Last night, we (finally!) had the Texas Primary election.  These are my quick takes:

    • The Utter Collapse of Texas Democrats -- In 2008, 168,669 people voted in the Democrat Party primary in Travis County.  In 2012, it was down to 42,399.  Last night, the local Fox station had the numbers for the top 15 counties in Texas.  I can't find the stats online, but it's even worse than in Travis County.  Now, obviously, the Dems had a big Presidential Primary in 2008, but lack of a Presidential Primary doesn't explain this.  Ouch, just ouch.
    • Ron Paul only won 12% -- Pathetic.  More on this shortly. Stay tuned
    • Mitt Romney won 69% -- Considering that the primary is over, I'm surprised there weren't more protest votes.  Republicans are unified behind Mitt.
    • Ken Mercer's Big Win -- Ken Mercer, of the Texas Board of Education, has been a champion for those of us who sought to Restore God, Teach Accurate History, and offer alternatives to Darwinism in Texas Schools.  For that, he's come under unceasing attacks from the left.  Last night, he won his primary with 70%.
While the national media is, naturally, focusing on the Ted Cruz race; last night was a step in the right direction, albeit a modest one.  It's not the knockout blow against the establishment I'd hoped it would be; but it's good enough.  We've proven our ability to impact Texas House races.  When Donna Campbell wins, we'll re-shape the Texas senate.  In 2014, we need to start winning U.S. House races.  That being said, we've got a good crop of people heading to Austin next year and, assuming Ted wins the run-off, we're sending an awesome new Senator to Washington.

    In 2013, we'll be watching....
