Exactly! Thank you David Simpson!
ReplyDeleteSimpson is wrong. How would the "right" elected officials reverse the same sex marriage decision? How would electing the "right" elected officials reverse Kelo v. New London? The fact is there is no check on the Supreme Court, a part of the third branch of the federal government, which has unmistakably altered the Constitution over the last 85 years. Gov. Abbott is right to ask Americans to FOLLOW the Constitution's remedy for the feds abuse of power and call a convention to rein it in.
ReplyDeleteActually Martin there is no 'bite' to anything SCOTUS does. Only the executive can enforce laws. It's so simple it escapes most people. You just say...no. What can SCOTUS do? Sue you? And? Send a bunch of letters saying we must do what they say? This is the fallacy of modern America. SCOTUS issues opinions..it does not make law. The State of Texas has every right to assert its sovereignty when the federal level takes on anything not enumerated as a power given to them. It does indeed take the right people elected. Once you say NO, the federal government will threaten your precious money it sends you. It takes strong me of convection to say, no more. Keep your money. Texas will not participate in this (or whatever) program.
