Apparently, the Washington Post released a poll the other day that showed Hillary leading Trump in Texas (which was listed as a "tossup"):

This was quickly followed by a panic stricken fundraising e-mail from Governor Abbott (Sidenote: Governor Abbott reported over $28 MILLION cash on hand in his last campaign finance report):

Many Texas conservatives have let their guard down, and Hillary’s campaign juggernaut is taking full advantage of it.

This is silly on so many levels.

First of all, the polls have been tightening nationally for the past two weeks, yet we're supposed to believe that Hillary is surging in Texas at the same time she's nosediving nationally?!?

Next, consider that the Washington Post poll had Hillary's percentage in Texas (46%) ahead of her national average in RCP (45.9%)...does anyone believe that?!?

Then there's this:

If anyone believes Obama is actually at 48% job approval in Texas, we have some mineral rights in South Texas we'd love to sell them.

Finally, one anecdotal note: We live in one of the bluest parts of the state, in a primarily Hispanic neighborhood, and we've seen literally zero activity from the Democrats this cycle.  If a groundswell against Trump was brewing, we would have seen a voter registration drive by now.  It ain't happening.

If anything, Democrats have taken a step backwards from Battleground Texas' super half assed less than diligent efforts in 2014.

So, what's happening?!?

There are two explanations:

• This is just a screwy poll and the general election results in Texas will be roughly in line with the past two decades with, perhaps, modest variation due to national conditions; this is, by far, the likeliest explanation.

• Trump is F**KED nationally.  Given the afore mentioned national trend, we don't think this is correct.  In the event that is the case, however, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Either way, nothing that happens in Texas is going to have any effect on the national election; anyone who tells you otherwise is sowing panic to advance an agenda.

Bottom Line: Barring a national landslide, Trump will win Texas comfortably.  Governor Abbott and RPT are sowing fear for fundraising purposes.  Vote your conscience.

General Electric Co. dropped the Dallas area as a site for a possible headquarters move because of concern that Texas’s political climate is unfavorable to the company’s business, people familiar with the matter said.

GE told Dallas business leaders in recent days it would look elsewhere for alternatives to its Connecticut home, said the people, who asked not to be identified because details aren’t public. They said GE cited some Texas lawmakers’ opposition to the U.S. Export-Import Bank, an important source of financing for some overseas sales.

The Ex-Im bank’s charter expired June 30 when Republican members of Congress blocked a reauthorization vote, eliminating a source of credit for U.S. companies seeking export sales. GE has benefited from that financing on international orders, especially for its jet-engine business.

Ex-Im Fight

Texas Republicans including Representative Jeb Hensarling, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, helped lead the charge against the bank, saying the federal agency used taxpayer money to benefit large corporations and foreign interests. The congressman’s office said in a statement that if Ex-Im stances are influencing GE’s choice, “they are going to have to bypass pretty much every state, including Georgia.”

“Most companies base important decisions like this on low taxes, a skilled workforce, a fair legal system and quality of life, which is why everyone knows there is no better state to do business in than Texas,” Jeff Emerson, a spokesman for Hensarling, said via e-mail.

GE’s international customers received almost $1 billion in credit assistance from the bank last year, according to an Ex-Im annual report. GE Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Immelt said in June that the company would move manufacturing work and jobs out of the U.S. if the bank isn’t reauthorized. Some lawmakers are working to revive the agency.

For those unaware, General Electric is one of the most gluttonous consumers of corporate welfare in the United States.  They embraced the 'green' agenda long before Barack Obama showed up.  GE has supported a long list of transgressions against free enterprise.

Closer to home, these guys would have been a nightmare around the Texas Legislature; they also would have been a lifeline to "Battleground" Texas.

Bottom Line: There's nothing quite like seeing General Electric cite Texans' opposition to the Export-Import bank as an "unfavorable political climate" to illustrate the difference between corporate rent-seeking and free enterprise.

Zimmerman proposes Austin 'code compliance' put skin in the game

City Council Member Don Zimmerman has proposed a unique punishment for the city’s Code Compliance Department when it loses a case in Municipal Court: It will have to pay.

Zimmerman, who has made no secret of his disdain for the department’s involvement in minor matters, has distributed a resolution that calls on the city manager to reimburse attorney’s fees to any citizen who is found not guilty of a code compliance issue at Municipal Court. The resolution says the fees would be “deducted from the budget of the Code Compliance Department.”

Zimmerman said the intent of his resolution is to get the department to focus on important matters and stop enforcing minor regulations such as those related to the height or composition of fences.

Zimmerman is particularly angry about the case of Matthew Palmer, a District 4 resident who went through a long and convoluted argument with Code Compliance about a fence surrounding his RV. Palmer, whose fence was sometimes alleged to be illegal — and sometimes not — won a jury trial at Municipal Court last month.

Wait; it gets better:

Casar said he was not a sponsor of the resolution, but was in favor of influencing the department to focus on important matters. “My interest in code enforcement is I would like to make sure we direct our resources so landlords will keep up their complexes, so people live in safe and sanitary housing, (instead of on) the smaller cases. Also, it’s interesting what happens when a particular employee’s interpretation is incorrect.”

Casar added, “I know Palmer is frustrated, but I of course want to hear the city’s side before deciding any next step. Right now, I wouldn’t be supportive of this resolution. I’m more interested in structurally making sure the Code Compliance Department is working the way that District 4 residents want it to.

“I just want to understand … what ways we can make code compliance more effective.”

Bottom Line: Not only is Don Zimmerman blazing a new trail of accountability for the petty tyrants of central planning, he's also picked a battlefield where even Battleground Texas' 2014 consolation prize can't oppose him.

Bottom Line: Not only did Battleground Texas get smoked statewide on November 4th.  Not only did three Republicans get elected to the Austin City Council last night.  But, even in their consolation prize in Northeast Austin, Battleground Texas' new golden boy trailed the previous golden boy by double digits.

Today's Statesman details the failure of Battleground Texas:

Despite talk of it being a historic election, Austinites are, so far, showing about the same interest in this year’s round of politics as they usually do. Early voting for the November election ends Friday. Twelve percent of Travis County voters had cast ballots by the end of Monday, almost exactly the same turnout as at this point in 2010, and within the range typically seen for a ballot headlined by a governor’s race, according to county election officials.

The lower-than-expected turnout is happening in this deep-blue city despite a Democratic gubernatorial challenger who has energized the party base and an overhaul of the city government intended to engage a greater swath of Austin — not to mention nearly $1.4 billion worth of bonds to build an urban rail line and expand Austin Community College’s offerings.

Yet at this pace, only a modest 40 percent of voters will cast a ballot by the time the polls close on Election Day, according to election officials.

“It’s remarkable how closely (this year) has been tracking” with other gubernatorial elections, said Bruce Elfant, who oversees voter registration as Travis County’s tax assessor-collector. “I didn’t expect that. I thought turnout would be higher.”

Despite a first-day surge in statewide early voting across the state, reports have turnout flagging and now at about 10 percent, where it was at this point four years ago. (The early vote totals, in Travis County and statewide, don’t include absentee ballots.)

Early voting is an important benchmark because, if recent history is any guide, more than half the votes in Travis County will be cast by the time early voting ends. Elfant and other politicos had expected more people at the ballot box because Travis County signed up 4,000 deputy voter registrars and registered 65,000 new voters this election cycle, both unusually high for an election year not headlined by a presidential contest.

It gets better:

But the city moved its election this year to November. This was partly to expand the pool of people participating in city elections. That change was combined with a new, district-based election system that is supposed to empower whole areas of town where residents have felt disenfranchised.

Supporters of the switch argued it could draw new voters to the governor’s race, even people with virtually no record of civic engagement.

This has apparently not happened. As City Council candidates have campaigned, though, some have encountered voters who weren’t aware of the change. Some knocked the city for not conducting a more aggressive informational campaign, possibly with TV and radio advertisements.

#GAMEOVER: Travis County Voter Registration data reveals Battleground Texas' failure

According to the Tax Office's website, as of the close of voter registration yesterday, there are just under 650,000 registered voters in Travis County:

Compare that number to the 635,000 (and change) Travis County had in 2012:

In other words, between election 2012 and voter registration cut-off day 2014, Travis County added 14,685 registered voters.

Next, consider population growth in one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas of the county.

According to census bureau data, Travis County's population was 1.096 million in 2012 and 1.21 million in 2013; data for 2014 is not yet available.

Using reasonable extrapolation for 2014 (year to date), this suggests that Travis County has about 40,000 new residents in the past two years.

Against 14,685 new voters.

That means the number of registered voters increased by 2.3% while the population at large increased by (approximately) 3.6%.

Battleground Texas' strategy always required them to run up the scoreboard in Travis County.  This is one of their strongest counties in the state.  They haven't made a dent.

Bottom Line: Voter registration in Travis County has failed to keep pace with population growth, let alone the increase Battleground Texas would need to "change Texas turnout."

University of Texas -- Three days ago, this author was walking across the University of Texas campus when we noticed that the #HailSatanTX Democrats had flyered the campus hoping to add to their paid campaign staff.  They were the type of flyers where interested potential counterparties are supposed to tear off a tag on the bottom.  Typically, on a popular item, the tiny little squares are gone within a day.  Tonight, we attended an event on campus and decided to scout the flyers while killing time.  The three day progress report speaks for itself:

Court records obtained by Breitbart Texas from the arrest of two women accused of buying votes show that during the democratic primaries in 2012, a campaign manager for a Hidalgo County Commissioner who said that during the campaign, he bought $50 worth of cocaine, commonly known as an 8-ball and split it up in order to give it to the two women so they could use it to entice voters.

Earlier this week Belinda Solis and Veronica Salazar went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Peter Ormsby who formally charged them with vote buying and set their bond at $10,000.

The two women were part of a large year and a half long FBI investigation into election corruption in Hidalgo County.

The investigation began in January 2013 when agents met with a campaign manager for a Hidalgo County Commissioner, who told the agents that he bought cocaine so his campaign workers could give it to the voters in exchange for their votes. The court records do not identify the commissioner by name; however they state that he ran during the 2012 primaries. The women were paid campaign workers, also known as politiqueras, who targeted low income areas and elderly individuals enticing them to vote for a particular candidate.

Over the course of the investigation, agents met with the two women who told the agents that they had received the cocaine from the campaign manager who is only identified on court records as campaign worker 1 and then gave it to the voters. The women also told the agents that they gave cocaine to voters during the school board election in Donna ISD in addition to cash, beer, cigarettes, and marijuana.

This has a long history.   It's gotten worse during the current crisis.  Kudos to Greg Abbott for accurately describing the situation.

[F]or Texas Democrats, struggling to make this a different kind of year for their statewide ticket, Obama's two-day visit to Texas, which begins Wednesday with stops in Dallas and Austin, is somewhere between a drag and a distraction.

Obama is very unpopular in Texas. Nearly half of all Texas voters strongly disapprove of his performance, and only 17 percent strongly approve, according to the most recent University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll in June.

And the timing of his visit -- planned long in advance for national Democratic [sic] party fundraisers in Dallas and Austin -- turned out to be particularly poor. It comes as a tide of unaccompanied minors, mostly from Central America, crossing the Rio Grande into Texas, also crossed a threshold from local problem to "national crisis," with all the attendant media attention and political finger-pointing.

Immigration might in the long term be in Democratic [sic] interests -- the more brown Texas becomes, the thinking goes, the more likely it is to turn blue. But in the short term, the issue is one that mostly rouses Republicans, who have moved to a harder-line stance on immigration in recent years, and that stance doesn't necessarily arouse as much of a backlash from Hispanic Texas -- at least those who vote -- as Democrats might hope. The poll found that two thirds of registered Hispanic voters also think more should be done to limit entry into the U.S., and 38 percent support the immediate deportation of immigrants who are living in the country without legal authorization. [Emphasis, again, added]

 Then the coup de grace:

Meanwhile, state Sen. Wendy Davis, the Democratic [sic] candidate for governor, and state Sen. Leticia van de Putte, the party's candidate for lieutenant governor, will be speaking Thursday to the summit of the Association of Texas Professional Educators at the Austin Convention Center, just ahead of the President's speech at the Paramount [theater], a few blocks away.  But neither candidate will cross paths with the President during his two-day visit.

More importantly, though, there doesn't appear to be any correlation to a county becoming more Hispanic and it voting more heavily Democratic. A graph of the two just looks like a swarm of bees, a big cluster showing no pattern whatsoever

Translating that shift bluntly: white Texans will probably die before Hispanic ones, even as more Hispanics -- a younger population -- reach voting age. Which would mean a higher population of Hispanic voters and, going back to the first two graphs, more votes for Democrats.

Or maybe not. A Gallup survey found that Texas Hispanics tended to be more conservative than the population nationally, further complicating the picture.

All we can do is look at how the state evolves over time. Over the past 10 years, the population shift was subtle and the voting change barely noticeable. In 2000, Al Gore won 24 of the state's counties. In 2012, Obama did better. He won 25.

Dallas, TX -- Earlier today, this website visited the Texas Democrat convention in Dallas.  We heard Wendy Davis speak several times.  The experience reminded us that this was the crowd that chanted "hail satan" last summer at the Capitol.

First things first, the crowd was about one-third the size of the crowd at the Republican convention earlier this month; we find this ironic considering how many angels fell from heaven.

Planned Parenthood was there.  They were giving away free condoms!  One of the Planned Parenthood volunteers encouraged this author to "take 3 [condoms], you might have a good convention."

• We overheard the Democrat candidate for Railroad Commission refer to his "Tea Party opponent."  He said that in reference to Ryan Friggin' Sitton.  Now THAT'S funny!!!

• That this vile crowd is Joe Straus' base tells you everything you need to know about Joe Straus.

• Finally, one small kudos: Congressman Al Green gave a rousing defense of Israel that, for a second, made us think we had been teleported to John Hagee's church.  We couldn't have agreed more.  Credit where it's due.

Given the opportunity to present the face of their choosing to the world, the #HAILSATAN Texas Democrats chose to present themselves as the party of promiscuity, genocide, and bullying innocent gun owners...
