For the First Time in AGES, State of Texas Does Something Right

"Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;
The rod of correction will drive it far from him."
Proverbs 22:15

Some good news:
Rumors and intel flew around for days leading up to Saturday, August 1. Dozens of activists were being bused into Austin, Texas, from Portland and Seattle to do to this city what they have done to both of those. Rumors suggested they wanted to destroy Austin police headquarters, the Texas state capitol, or both.

....

[I]nformation suggested the groups intended to attack Austin police headquarters. The headquarters building has been the site of protests and often violent riots over the past two months. The activists have attempted to storm the building in the past but failed.

Saturday’s protest activity was billed as the biggest yet, at least in part due to the shooting of Garrett Foster. Foster was the man who apparently pointed his AK-47 rifle at the car window of driver Daniel Perry while protesters surrounded and pounded on his car during an unpermitted protest and illegal taking of the public street just before 10 p.m. on July 25. Perry, an Army sergeant and licensed handgun carrier, fired his weapon after Foster had used his rifle to order Perry to roll his car window down. Pointing a gun at someone can, obviously, be read as hostile action. Texas’s castle law covers drivers in vehicles defending themselves, including the use of deadly force.

APD and the Texas Department of Public Safety were ready for Saturday’s action, making this post short.
There isn't a lot more to say.

Saturday had the potential to be bad. Really bad. But it wasn't.

For those who are interested, there's plenty of video footage on social media. You're welcome to check. But the main takeaway was that, by having DPS back up APD...not much happened. A situation with a lot of ugly potential was rendered a non-story.

Also, the GOP might have just made the case (despite the underformance 95%(+) of the time) for keeping themselves in charge of the state.

Bottom Line: Saturday night could have been a lot worse.

#TXLEGE: Larson Opportunistically Deploys Emmanuel's Old Playbook

"and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved."
2 Thessalonians 2:10

Classic:

Translation: Lyle Larson wants to make Texas' primary election earlier.

But this has nothing to do with presidential politics, and everything to do with protecting liberal incumbents down ballot.

In 2012, the primary in Texas was delayed two months due to meddling by the Obama administration.  It was also, not coincidentally, conservatives' best legislative cycle...pretty much ever.  Two additional months of campaigning allowed grassroots candidates to neutralize incumbents money advantage.

Ever since, the bidness-as-usual crowd has been pushing to make Texas' primary as early as possible.

Larson's been up to this for awhile.  In 2017, he authored HB 3180, which would have moved Texas' primary up to January.  This would have advantaged candidates with deep enough pockets to buy advertising during the Christmas season.  Incumbents, in other words.

That being said, we respect Larson's chutzpah:

Bottom Line: Using presidential politics as a pretext to protect legislative incumbents is a terrible idea.

#TXLEGE: Fallon Video confirms Rinaldi's account of #SB4 protesters bragging about illegal status...

"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
John 8:32

UPDATE (6/3/2017): See here at the 4:30 mark....

Since yesterday's mayhem, Democrats have attempted to dispute Matt Rinaldi's assertion that the anti-rule of law protesters were openly bragging about their illegal status.  As we mentioned in our post about the incident yesterday, fellow state rep Pat Fallon had uploaded video of the events but there were formatting issues with this website.  We've resolved those and present Fallon's videos (the second one is the worst):

Video #1:

Video #2:

[Note: This is the one where they're openly chanting about being in the country illegally.]

Video #3:

Finally, allow us to add a few personal observations from yesterday.  We didn't take any pictures or video as we observed these events because we didn't think they'd later be in dispute.  But, from memory:
  • We were not on the Capitol grounds as most of the craziness occurred; we were at a separate event three blocks away and arrived about 45 minutes later.
  • As we were milling through the crowd at their rally (Confession: we wanted to see if there was food), we heard multiple speakers on the South steps of the Capitol bragging about how they were busing in people from "Florida," "New Mexico," and "New York" along with other locations we don't recall.
  • Looking North from the back of the Capitol parking garage, we saw buses lined up Trinity st as far as the eye could see.
  • It's also worth mentioning that a lot of them were wearing red "Fight for 15" (ie. $15 minimum wage) shirts.
That being said, it's worth pointing out that protests where people openly brag about illegal status happen all the time in Austin.  Here's an example from April 2014; here's an example from November 2016.  We've previously thought about doing the same thing as Rinaldi, but decided against kicking that particular hornet's nest; in the future, now that the nest's been kicked....

Bottom Line: The videos (especially the second) speak for themselves....

Where are the Texas House's Committee Assignments?!?

"They are deeply corrupted,
As in the days of Gibeah.
He will remember their iniquity;
He will punish their sins."
Hosea 9:9

Confession: The headline of this post was a rhetorical question.

The Texas legislature has now been in session for 24 days out of 140.

Texas Senate committee assignments have now been out for two weeks.

The Texas Senate has already moved two of the Governor's priorities out of committee.

Meanwhile, the Texas House has yet to assign committees and it stands adjourned until Monday at 2pm.

Remember, in the Texas Legislature, the biggest enemy is the clock.  On day 140, everything stops. Delay is death.

Of course, this is deliberate, both to kill good bills and to enable bad bills to pass in the chaotic environment this will produce in May.

Revelation 9:1-12 -- The FIFTH Trumpet Judgement

Fifth Trumpet: The Locusts from the Bottomless Pit
Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle. They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months. And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon.

One woe is past. Behold, still two more woes are coming after these things.
Revelation 9:1-12

TPPF EXCORIATES Lawless SCOTUS ruling

"And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
Joshua 24:15

This statement speaks for itself:

TEXAS PUBLIC POLICY FOUNDATION
STATEMENT ON U.S. SUPREME COURT RULING IN
OBERGEFELL ET AL. v. HODGES, DIRECTOR, OHIO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, ET AL.

AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s President and CEO Brooke Rollins, and its Director of the Center for Tenth Amendment Action, Thomas Lindsay, Ph.D., issued the following statements in reaction to the Supreme Court of the United States’s ruling in the Obergefell case this morning:

“With the Obergefell decision, we see the Supreme Court of the United States trespass against the principles that constitute the very foundation of United States: democratic self-governance, separation of powers, and the sovereignty of the states under the Tenth Amendment,” said Rollins. “The contention that the Fourteenth Amendment overturns the Tenth, and therefore validates a remote and imperious judiciary’s revision by fiat of the family law and social institutions of all the states, is contrary to the American system, destructive to liberty, and offensive to common sense.

"Whatever one thinks of the marriage question, this is a dangerous decision that only accelerates the accretion of power into the hands of an undemocratic elite."

“Regardless of one’s view of same-sex marriage, even a cursory examination of the 14th Amendment—which the Court relied on in this case—demonstrates that the Amendment’s sole focus was to complete the work begun by Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation,” said Lindsay. “The Court has failed in its fundamental obligation to the American people to interpret the Constitution honestly. It has failed to follow Lincoln’s counsel that freedom can survive only so long as we uphold ‘reverence for the Constitution.’ The Court’s reckless disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law will ultimately destroy its own authority—and with it, the system of checks and balances on which all our liberties depend.”

Texas Capitol visitors parking vandalized with anti-Police graffiti

"Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
Romans 12:19

We took this picture in the Capitol parking garage this morning around 9AM; considering the anti-police activities that have been occurring nationally, this isn't good:

BOOK REVIEW: Game Plan, by Kevin Freeman

"So the plenty will not be known in the land because of the famine following, for it will be very severe....Then that food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine.”
Genesis 41:31...36

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:9

"But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand."
Ezekiel 33:6

Financial terrorism is the greatest threat currently facing the U.S. economy and national security.

In 2012, Kevin Freeman published Secret Weapon, which detailed how the 2008 financial crisis was a foreign attack on the U.S. economy.  Unfortunately, since then, U.S. political leadership has chosen cronyism over preparing for another attack.  Given this reality, Freeman's 2013 follow up Game Plan is a guide for individuals to protect themselves during perilous economic times.

Since 2008, under George W. Bush and Barack Obama (and congresses of both parties), the United States government has spent itself into oblivion.  The Federal Reserve has degraded the value of the dollar.  Productive economic activity is stagnant.  With more attacks on the horizon, the U.S. economy is prostrate.  While the primary battlefield is financial, military weakness and border chaos don't help.

Financial terrorism takes many forms (p. 71).  Examples include: an EMP (72), cyber attacks on financial markets (78-9), Flash Crashes (83), Bear Raids (90), or interest rate shocks (91).  Any of these scenarios could devastate the U.S. and/or Global economy.  From Al Qaeda, to China, to ISIS, to North Korea, to Russia, many of America's enemies have experimented with these capabilities.  Threats come from a variety of sources.

Over the next few years, prepare for economic uncertainty without recent precedent along with major downside risk.  Freeman investigates how various asset classes will act in various scenarios.  The biggest question is whether we face deflation or inflation.  The next major question is whether the dollar loses its status as global reserve currency.  Depending on the scenario, various allocations between precious metals (ch. 5), stocks (ch. 6), cash (ch. 8), and commodities (ch. 10) make sense.  Unfortunately, Freeman doesn't discuss BITCOIN, another avenue for diversification.  Under most circumstances, bonds should be avoided for a few years.

One note on gold: it's a good idea, but it's not a panacea.  Freeman tracks the price of gold from 1263 to 1932 to illustrate how, "for hundreds of years, gold was relatively steady (97)."  The U.S. "constitution also explicitly addresses gold and silver coinage for the states" (100) in Article I, Section 10.  Unfortunately, gold is also subject to confiscation (102) and price manipulation (107).  Over the long run, stocks outperform gold.

Bailouts, government debt, and "quantitative easing" have hobbled the U.S. economy.  This weakened state leaves the U.S. economy perilously vulnerable to financial terrorism.  That terrorism can take a variety of forms and come from a variety of places.  That being said, if you stay calm and adapt with circumstances, you can survive and proper through the coming crises.  To prepare yourself, Game Plan, by Kevin Freeman, is a fantastic place to start.

Wade Emmert disses the Grassroots

"he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions,"
1 Timothy 6:4

Republican Party of Texas Chairman Candidate Wade Emmert sent an e-mail to supporters recently; it contained this line:
Unfortunately, there are also those among us who seek to divide our Grand Old Party to pursue a more narrow vision. To them, we say we are stronger and more inspiring when we stand united than when we let petty differences divide us.
Translation: Don't y'all worry your pretty little heads about the actual policy outcomes your elected officials produce, just vote for the guy with an 'R' after his name (and can we have some money?!?)....

-----

Emmert's letter also contained this:
For more than a decade, Dallas County has been ground-zero for efforts, expenditures, and organizing by the Democrat Party. Under my leadership, we have fought tooth-and-nail to dismantle the lock they held on all county offices. Without compromising our principles, we learned to fight and win against Democrats in tight races.
Because the Dallas County GOP didn't just blow one of the most winnable races of all time or anything....

Barry Smitherman's Obnoxious, Transparent Tea-Party Pander

Cahnman's Musings had been meaning to comment on this over-the-top pander from Attorney General Candidate (and current Railroad Commission Chair) Barry Smitherman, but Agendawise beat us to the punch:
Smitherman spent approximately seven years in a plum appointment to the Public Utilities Commission. In 2011 he was appointed to the Railroad Commission, and in months the newbie appointee was made Chairman. This strengthened his position ahead of his first primary election, which took him a runoff to secure.

Also, his campaign finance chair is Robert Miller, a lobbyist and blogger who has been an outspoken voice of support for embattled House Speaker Joe Straus in his struggles against conservatives.

....

Though this is music to some people’s ears, it is the kind of noise that would get a true conservative mocked at full volume by every newspaper and ruling class voice in Texas.

....

When instead of a blazing fire there are a few token candles of outrage lit, but nothing uncomfortable, it is a good time to question the authenticity of the drama.

Sometimes what is not happening says much more than what is.
Amen; read the whole thing here.

Cahnman's Musings has heard some VERY unflattering things about Smitherman's performance on the Railroad Commission; we've never looked into them, but we might now.

JoAnn Fleming: We have forgotten the meaning of Stewardship

Last Saturday, before the chaos erupted at the Capitol, Cahnman's Musings attended the Our Nation Campaign Prayer and Unity event at the Texas Capitol.  JoAnn Fleming was one of the speakers.  This is a message every believer needs to hear:

Highlights:
  •  "As Christians, we have forgotten what stewardship means."
  • God doesn't care how right you are on an issue if you don't speak the truth in the right way at the right time and in the right spirit.
  • "Stewardship is about understanding that everything we have belongs to the Lord; the tax dollars they spend in this building [the Texas Capitol] belong to the Lord.  So when politicians waste money, they're wasting God's money.  Until you understand what stewardship is, you really can't understand the right way to make decisions about spending other people's money."
  • We've got to demand more of our elected officials based not on politics, but on stewardship.
  • God is greater than any giants that get in the way.
  • "I would ask you today to pray for our state.  Out state is not nearly as strong as people would lead you to believe.  We have abandoned the principle of living debt-free in the state of Texas.  We will probably end this special session without the pro-life legislation being passed because of games by the people who put the political games together...God have mercy on us and on those men.
  • We are to pray for those in authority over us; there is no fine print that says 'if they agree with you.'

Kevin Freeman: You can run but you can't hide (except maybe in Texas)

Cahnman's Musings has been familiar with Kevin Freeman since we read his book Secret Weapon last year.  Thus, it heartens us to hear Freeman speak approvingly of Rep. Giovanni Capriglione's effort to establish a gold bullion depository in the state of Texas. Freeman writes:
The most asked question after people grasp that we are in a global economic war is “What do I do with my money?” Now, it is a pretty astounding revelation to understand that the next global war, or more precisely the one we are in now, is not fought with tanks and planes. It is fought with money and computers. It is not a cyber war as so many have thought. It is an economic war and cyber is simply one of the many battlefields.

It wasn’t a cyber attack that doomed Cypriot depositors to lose 10%, 30%, or 80% of their deposits over 100,000 Euro (or however it ends up). No, it was bank failures and the pressures of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the European Union. These were terms “handed down.” No computer needed in this case.

Of course, there is a massive cyber battle underway. In fact, just last week may have been the largest attack in history. Here at home, JP Morgan Chase depositors logged on to their accounts recently only to see zero balances across the board. We have been told that this wasn’t hacking but rather a computer glitch. but, it could have been hacking and that is the point.

Once someone realizes that this is a global economic war they understand that their bank accounts, life savings, stock holdings, and even currency could come under attack. The immediate response is to ask how to protect your money. Unfortunately, there is no “one size fits all” answer. The reality is that no single approach can work.

....

The reality is that gold has been confiscated in the past and could be confiscated in the future.  If the IMF can raid Cyprus-held bank accounts, do you believe gold bars in your home would be immune?

It is interesting to note that the state of Texas may ask for their gold to be held in the state. A new bill sponsored by Giovanni Capriglione and supported by Governor Rick Perry may pave the way for one place to possibly hide. If successful, this bill opens some interesting possibilities as mentioned by Jim Rickards, best-selling author of Currency Wars. [Rickards has been featured extensively warning of the risks of a dollar collapse. He led a war game effort in the Pentagon that showed how Russia and China could destroy our currency.]
It makes us breathe just a little easier knowing that Kevin Freeman favors these efforts.

Update: Apparently, Kevin Freeman helped craft this plan.

Lewdness Masquerading as Free Speech

If you've never read the 1963 goals of the Communist Party USA, #24 states:
Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them censorship and a violation of free speech and free expression.
An almost cartoonish example came out of San Francisco this past week:
The nudists want to stop city leaders from passing a law prohibiting them from appearing in public in the buff.  The law, they say, would violate their right to freedom of speech.
Where to begin?!?

Public lewdness is not a political statement, and thus has no right to constitutional protection.  Public lewdness leads to chaos and disorder, which means it clearly falls within the police powers of local government.  This should be common sense.

Sadly, it's not.  Marxists have been deliberately using sex to undermine productive citizenship for decades, and this is the result.  That's why America desperately needs a sexual counterrevolution.

Pat Condell: A word to Rioting Muslims

This clip is amazing:

  • T describe these riots an infiltile and imbicilic gives them a level of credit they don't deserve.
  • We've become weary of manufactured Islamic offense
  • There's nothing on this planet less deserving of respect than Muslim outrage.
  • 20 years of baseless grivence mongering.
  • If you're an offended Muslim, go stick your head in the oven for all we care.
  • Islam gives us nothing, it's a 'religion' permanently on the take.

Mediterranean Update Tuesday: Corrupt U.S. Media Covers-Up Islamist takeover in Libya

What would you call a pro-Sharia political party who cut a deal with the Islamists before the election?!? If you're the corrupt American media and you need to cover for Barack Obama's catastrophic foreign policy, you call them pro-Western.  This is laughable, the political party currently leading in Libya is nothing of the sort.

Yesterday, I posted this Breitbart piece on Libya on Facebook.  One of my lefty friends from college challenged the accuracy of the piece.  I'm grateful to him for issuing the challenge, because in exploring how the MSM has covered this event, I found a textbook example of media corruption.

The leading party in Libya is called the National Forces Alliance.  They describe themselves as moderate Islamists who support Sharia as the main source of legislation with 'protection for minority rights'.  Of course, there's no such thing as a moderate Islamist.  At best, 'protection for minority rights' under Sharia means dhimmitude. For the record, Ayatollah Khomeini said the same thing in 1979.

This is a farce. As Daniel Greenfield explains:
The [Muslim] Brotherhood needs Jibril [the NFA candidate] out front to reassure foreign investors. In Egypt, the Brotherhood had front men like Khairat El-Shater, who could sell the Brotherhood as a friendly capitalist venture, but in Libya, Abdul Hakim Belhadj of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, with ties to Al-Qaeda, heading up the Al-Watan Party is a much less reassuring figure even for the most useful of useful idiots. Suleiman Abdelkader of the Justice and Construction Party is hardly any more reassuring, even to those journalists who see moderate Islamists under every Jihad.
Barack Obama also needs a faux 'moderate' to take power in country launched an unconstitutional war against last year.  He can't have another Egypt.

So, how did the U.S. Media cover this event?!?

Again, this is a pro-Sharia party who has already cut a deal with the Islamists.

Classic.

Update: It's not just the liberal media either.  The establishment Conservative media has it's head up its keister as well.  This act of wishful thinking appeared in the Wall St Journal Today.

America is Wisconsin; not Greece

Amid the celebration of Governor Scott Walker's decisive victory last night, one lesson stands out clearly: America is still America, we haven't become Greece.

Since Barack Obama was elected, and since the number of takers has inched ever closer to the number of makers, existential questions have been asked.  Can the American people restore the Constitutional Republic of our foundation, or will we succumb to what Mark Steyn calls extremely seductive incremental decline?!?  Last night, the voters of Wisconsin gave their answer.

In 2010, Governor Scott Walker campaigned on Restoring Economic Growth, Balancing the Budget, and Not Raising Taxes.  Collective Bargaining Reform is a natural component of that agenda.  Collective Bargaining Reform discredited the corrupt shibboleths upon which the left is built, thus they threw every thuggish tactic in their arsenal at Governor Walker.  The failed.  Wisconsinites affirmed budgetary reforms and thumbed their noses at the Unions.

Contrast last night is Wisconsin with the ongoing chaos in Greece.  Where Wisconsinites chose prudent budgetary reforms, Greeks threw a violent hissy fit.  Where Wisconsinites re-affirmed a courageous politician, Greeks elected Nazi's.  Wisconsin has a future, Greece does not.

Last night, Wisconsin voters sent a message to the world.  Is America done?!?  Not yet, NOT BY A LONG SHOT....

On The Book of Revelation and Obama's Birth Certificate....

This morning, I set out to do a piece on how Barack Obama's collapsing poll numbers undermine the case that Barack Obama is the Antichrist; having reviewed the relevant scripture I'm not comfortable making that assertion.  I did, however, realize one thing.  If Barack Obama is the Antichrist, then he cannot have been born in Kenya.

Revelation 13:1 (KJV) states that the Antichrist shall "rise up out of the sea."  While Kenya does have a coastline,Obama's ancestral homeland is in the Kenyan Mountains.  For Barack Obama to qualify as the Antichrist, he needs to rise up out of the sea; that means Hawaii.

I don't pretend to know God's plan, I've read Matthew 24, and I have no idea if Barack Obama is the Antichrist (although, if he is, we'll find out in late-July).  The Book of Revelation, however, is quite clear that the Antichrist will not emerge from the mountains of Kenya.  Barack Obama can either be the Antichrist, or he be born in Kenya; he can't be both.

I think there's a stronger case for the former....:)

Free Market America and Paul Harvey: The Sincerest form of Flattery

The other day, this online video started making the rounds:

It's obviously based on this old Paul Harvey commentary that went around about six weeks ago:

It's almost like the Devil wants America to fail economically, but that would be crazy....
